Life as of Late #008

This blog has been pretty silent lately, and I owe it all to life being more active offline. Sometimes, it makes me wanna abandon this blog completely and just focus on living life to the fullest, but I know I have to document my experiences somewhere just so I can read about them in the future. :P

  1. After finishing the Emi Lost & Found series by Lori L. Otto, I didn’t proceed with the Choisie series as I have planned, but I started with The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott since I miss reading fantasy books. I’m liking the first book (The Alchemyst) so far.
  2. My headaches were getting out of hand already due to stress at work (and some other trivial sources) so I knew I had to do something. I started taking multivitamins (Enervon), and fortunately, it worked! I rarely get headaches now.
  3. We visited Mt. Talinis, and it’s the first mountain ever that made me wanna give up on trekking. Hahaha!
  4. I volunteered to be one of the facilitators for the Barili Youth Camp, a weekend activity sponsored by Gawad Kalinga and LGU-Barili (will be blogging about this soon). I miss this kind of activities, to be honest. It’s been a while since I last volunteered for a Gawad Kalinga activity.
  5. Mumu’s been collecting card/board games lately. We’ve played Mascarade and Sheriff of Nottingham so far, and they’re pretty fun!
  6. It’s the start of a new fiscal year at work! Change is on its way. Hahaha.

Oh, –ber months na pala! Merry Christmas in advance! I’m still clearing up my blog backlogs. :)))

Life as of Late #007

I’ve been insanely busy this month with work that I haven’t had the time to update my blog with what’s happening in my life for the past month. So here’s a roundup of those happenings. I hope I get to blog about the major ones soon! :P

  1. I miss my college barkada every day that I don’t see them (charot), so I was glad that we got together for the birthday of one of the girls! The boys talked about more mature topics and later, we talked about travel. What I’m hoping for is that we’ll have our first ever trip out of the country soon!
  2. One weekend, our trekking group went, umm, trekking with some strangers / fellow trekkers in Cebu. We went to Mago Peak, which is located at the boundary of 3 towns — Danao, Carmen, and Tuburan.
  3. My mother celebrated her 61st birthday last weekend so we had a lunch out at Chikaan in SM City Cebu.
    mama's 61st birthday
    Happy birthday, mother! :)

I asked her what she wanted as a gift (I’m not good with surprises), and she said she wanted a washing machine (for my aunt’s use at home). My sister and I bought one for her, including a karaoke machine (MIDI DVD Player) requested by my brother. :))

  4. I recently switched to Windows 10, and I’m finding it nice so far. I’m having problems with making the display appear bigger, though, without having blurry texts in some applications. I hope Microsoft provides a fix for this soon (I’ve tried the solution provided by some people online but none of them seems to work). Here’s how my desktop looks right now:

Everything looks so small at 100% display size.

  5. I’ve only been able to read one book this month (and I’m not yet done with it) — Never Look Back by Lori L. Otto. I find the plot just so-so, and I don’t like that Jack Holland (the narrator and one of the main characters in the book) is too ideal, almost perfect. I just want more realism. Hahaha.
  6. As I have already mentioned, the majority of this month was spent getting busy at work as our project is coming to an end. I worked overtime for a couple of days, going home very late at night or very early in the morning (latest was 7am the next day)! I’ve been getting frequent headaches, and it seems that my throat is tightening/closing up. I Googled this sensation, and it does happen to some due to anxiety/stress. :(

I’m not sure what my days will be like this August, but I hope I’ll get more free time to do more blogging and more reading. :)

Life as of Late #006

I know it has already been said by everybody, but what the heck — it’s halfway through the year already? That was fast! A lot has happened in my life in the last couple of months — coming home to Cebu, quitting social media (and enjoying it), changing career paths, trekking/climbing a couple of mountains, celebrating my 4th anniversary with Mumu — and I couldn’t be more thankful for all the blessings! :)

Anyway, here’s what’s up with me lately:

  1. At the start of April, I wrote about my goals for the 2nd quarter of 2015. And guess what? I wasn’t able to complete everything. Hahaha. But!! I was able to blog about our adventures in El Nido and Puerto Princesa, Palawan and Singapore last year, and some other adventures we’ve had this year. I’m still trying to find some free time to review my adventures in Malaysia and South Korea so I can write about them soon. Also, I’m just one book (or one and a half, if there’s such thing, since I’m not yet done with my 9th book) behind my goal of 10 books read by midyear — I’m currently on the 3rd (or 2nd, depends if you consider the prequel as part of the series) book for Emi Lost & Found series. Seriously, this book (Time Stands Still) made me cry! :'(
  2. As I mentioned above, Mumu and I celebrated our 4th anniversary together last June 15. We stuffed ourselves at our dinner in Yakimix — we stayed there for 2 hours!
  3. My 5th trek for this year covered two mountains — Mt. Mauyog and Mt. Manunggal. The trail was technically difficult (at least for us), and I was proud of my friends who, despite this being their 1st trek, didn’t give up! Well, they didn’t have a choice anyway. :))
  4. I have a new project at work. It’s only for 2 months, but I’ve learned a lot about web services so far! (Sorry if I sometimes mention technical or work-related stuff here, hehehe.)
  5. My friend Johnel, who’s still working in Manila until now (after Karen and I came back to Cebu a few months ago), came home for this week. Just last night, we hung out and watched a comedy/drama Korean movie (Scandal Makers or Speed Scandal) at the movie house. The protagonist is Tae-hyun Cha, the same one from My Sassy Girl. The kid in this movie, Seok-hyeon Hwang, was also veeerrryyy cute!!! :D

I wouldn’t expect the 2nd half of this year to go slower, but I’m hoping that things will continue to get better. :)

Life as of Late #005

Judging by the number of posts I’ve published this month (5 including this), I could conclude that May has been a busy (or maybe lazy) month.

  1. After a 2-week training on Adobe Experience Manager (CMS), our group started on our asset development at work. I’ve only been on it for 4 days but another technology, hybris (e-commerce), needed more resources with Java background so I was pulled out from the asset development to do a “training” (self-study, actually) again. I’m feeling so in demand! :)))
  2. We went chasing mountain[s] and chasing waterfalls on the first weekend of May. It was indeed labor day. :P
  3. Mumu and I spent two days with his family who came to Cebu to celebrate the birthday of his nephew. One day was spent in the amusement arcade with the kids, another day was spent in Cebu Westown Lagoon.
  4. I finished reading 2 books — Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins, and Not Today, But Someday by Lori L. Otto. I’m now onto the Emi Lost & Found series (still by Lori L. Otto).
  5. After I-don’t-know-how-many-months, I joined another Gawad Kalinga event — the Hope Conference 2015 — in Anda, Bohol.
  6. The Digital group in our company had a summer outing yesterday at Be Resorts Mactan. It may be our last hurrah in summer since the rainy season is coming.

I’ve been (and will be) spending most of my nights reading a book or doing some studying/reviewing for work, hence the lack of updates on this blog. I might be laying low from adventures starting June to save up, though, so I might have more time to blog on weekends. :)

My Goals for Second Quarter 2015

I started 2015 by launching this new blog, but I never really got around to listing down my goals for this year. I’m not [yet] big on establishing long-term goals (except for the common ones like travel the world, succeed in my career, have my own family — I’m so original) maybe because I’m fickle. And I know this is something I need to work on. But for now, here are my short-term goals (writing and reading), which I’m aiming to accomplish by end of this quarter (and that’s also the end of the first half of 2015).

As I have already mentioned, this blog was launched at the start of this year. I did not import the posts from my old blog because I wanted a clean slate (though I did rewrite/republish some posts). I have a lot of backlogs from last year, and I would like to finish working on them all as soon as possible. My original goal was to finish everything by the first quarter, but because I inserted some unplanned contents, those backlogs got pushed to later dates.

Those backlogs are mainly just travelogues of my past adventures. What I’m aiming to publish in the coming weeks/months are posts for the following:

  • Singapore-Malaysia (I’ve already written about the first two days.)
  • South Korea
  • El Nido and Puerto Princesa, Palawan

I’ve also lined up some contents for my recent adventures and more personal posts. I just wanna sit down and write!
