Gawad Kalinga Hope Conference 2015 in Anda, Bohol

After months of not being able to participate in a Gawad Kalinga activity, Mumu and I decided to join the Hope Conference in Anda, Bohol last May 23-24.

Since Mumu and I had a videoke session with friends the night before (until a few hours past midnight), we slept through our 1-hour boat ride to Tubigon and 2-hour van ride to Anda. We weren’t able to join in on the talks/sessions in the morning since we were late, but we were glad to see our GK friends again after a long time!

We spontaneously decided to visit Casica Falls before lunchtime. After the long walk from the road to the falls (we weren’t prepared!), we finally reached the place, but we were a bit disappointed because the falls was just small and slow-flowing, probably because it’s summer.

Smiling away the disappointment! :))

In the afternoon, I joined the Social Enterprise workshop and a talk about using social media in spreading hope — something I couldn’t do at the moment anywhere else other than here in my blog. Hihihi.

The Kalinga Night that followed in the evening by the beach was full of song and dance numbers and jamming session with the band. It’s one thing I miss in GK activities. :)

The next day was leisure time for us, and we spent it at the beach in Anda and at Can-umantad Falls and Rice Terraces in Candijay (for GK Cebu team).

The way from the main road to the falls was nothing like I expected. It’s a very rocky road which we went through via a motorcycle for 30 minutes. Upon reaching the falls, as expected, the water wasn’t that big because it’s summer. Otherwise, it would’ve looked majestic. :(

It was already late in the afternoon when we made our way to the port. There was kind of a misadventure with our transportation. There’s no accident involved, just some paasa moments with the drivers. After all the trouble, we were finally able to board a boat back to Cebu. :)

I’ve always wanted to be a GK volunteer at least once! When I was in high school, our last outreach program was actually a GK program and it was fun!

GK is where I met my boyfriend and some great friends as well! It taught me a lot of good things about building a community, and it feels wonderful to be able to extend help to those who need it. :)
